I was born in Wales on a snowy Wednesday morning, high up in a small village nestled in the Welsh mountains. As a youth, I joined the British Army and after spending a few years in Germany, emigrated to the US and worked most of my life in Colorado Springs. After being stateside for many years, I came back to Wales, temporarily but plan to return soon.
I am an adventurous passionate, no glass ceilings citizen of the world...
While living in the UK, I volunteered in Lesotho, a high-altitude, landlocked kingdom encircled by South Africa for eight weeks. That's where it all began for me back in October-December 2014 when a close colleague I was working with was studying to become a minister, one day I heard him reading aloud a passage that changed my life's direction...
Let each of you look not only to his own interests but also to the interests of others" Philippians 2:4
This resonated in me, fueling a dream to be able to give back to the world, I want to help where I can, with what I can, with no hidden agenda, no financial gain but have a resounding satisfaction, that I have done my very best.
I want to help where I can, with what I can, with no hidden agenda
Since my initial volunteering in 2014, I have been back to Africa Four more times. and I am currently volunteering with a few Welsh links in Wales who are linked with Africa. Being a part of the various Links to Africa has changed my outlook. Instead of “I can do something”, it’s “we”, a team, a collective of like-minded people that want to make a difference in this world, and I am now an adventurous passionate, no glass ceilings global citizen of the world...
Helping one person might not change the world, but I can change the world for one person...
I also use Lend With Care a site to help people achieve their goals through crowdfunding repayable interest-free loans, "A Hand Up Not A Hand Out", its a way of lending to someone to help them work their way out of poverty
I want to give people a chance to get ahead in life. I have learned, a little can go a long way and although I am not rich or have spare money, that does not stop me helping what I can.
I am crowdsourcing donations to help me go above and beyond when I am out on deployment in Africa.
I am looking for funding to help support the local campaigns I’m helping. I have previously financed these myself, however, with additional expenses such as time off work, travel, vaccinations, purchasing a first aid kit (donated at the end of every visit) and acquiring an international driving permit my funds are running low.
"I am now supporting a youth leadership voluntary team that is covering HIV Anti-Stigma"
In addition to this, I am now supporting a youth leadership voluntary team that is covering HIV Anti-Stigma, and while I am out in Quthing Lesotho in Oct 2018, we will be holding a campaign at Hills-View in Upper Moyeni. I have already pledged £200 towards the campaign, but wish I could give more.
Your kind donation will help with both the planning and delivery of Ntlafatso Foundation's HIV Anti-Stigma Campaign in October, international training, support, and will also help purchase what I need in Lesotho to complete my deployment above and beyond the Welsh Health Links limited funds already covering the basic expenses.
Thank you in advance
Alan
