Go Fund Me!!!

Volunteering

I am looking for funding to help support the International campaigns I’m helping.  I have previously financed these myself, however, with additional expenses such as time off work, travel, vaccinations, purchasing a first aid kit (donated at the end of every visit) and acquiring an international driving permit my funds are running low.

In addition to this, I am now supporting a youth leadership voluntary team that is covering HIV Anti-Stigma, and while I am out in Quthing Lesotho in Oct 2018, we will be holding a campaign at Hills-View in Upper Moyeni.  I have already pledged £200 towards the campaign, but wish I could give more.

Ntlafatso foundation is a Youth Volunteer Initiative, which envisions a healthier Africa starting first at the community level. On the 24th February 2018, it launched its very first HIV/AIDS ANTI-Stigma ATTITUDE campaign which aims to reduce the HIV stigma among the youth. When HIV/AIDS stigma is reduced, more people will test for HIV.

Your kind donation will help with both the planning and delivery of Ntlafatso Foundation's  HIV Anti-Stigma Campaign in October, international training, support, and will also help purchase what I need in Lesotho to complete my deployment above and beyond the Welsh Health Links limited funds already covering the basic expenses.

Thank you in advance
Alan

How I started volunteering…

In October 2014 I travelled to Lesotho, South Africa on an International Learning Opportunity (ILO) to develop my leadership skills.

ILO is a Welsh Government funded scheme which gives participants the chance to spend eight weeks working in Uganda or Lesotho.  Participants include midwives, GP’s, mental health practitioners and physiotherapists to name but a few, who work with communities in a health context.  ILO does not pay your salary while you are abroad but does cover flights, travel costs and accommodation.

Since my initial visit in 2014 through ILO, I have been back four more times, no longer funded by the Welsh Government, but now funded and supported by Welsh Health Links.

The Welsh Links are really good at fundraising and getting grants to achieve their health-related training goals; however as I am not trained in any health disciplines, I volunteer my technical, logistic and driving skills to help the Health Links achieve their goals, as well as assisting with any analytics, computer, printer or network issues in the local hospital so I do not receive funding.

Today’s a new day, I open my eyes and think of all the possibilities.  Wales is a beautiful country, green, filled with castles and story’s of King Arthur and the knights of the roundtable.  Roman roads seem to always lead to old churches, friendly people offering hot tea and toast, this is to know Wales... good morning, it’s a new day...

My name is Alan, and I love life, my work and what I have yet to discover.  I like to visit new places, see new things and try new foods. I love photography using IOS devices, web design, analytics and graphic design.

Live your dream, or you'll end up living someone else's...
